The webcam of the EliteBook x360 offers a higher resolution than most competitors at 2.1 MP. Most comparison devices only offer 0.9 MP sensors.
Display
The screen of the EliteBook x360 1030 G4 consists of a 13.3-inch IPS panel with a matte touch surface. Compared to its predecessor, the response time is significantly lower on this panel. The average brightness is good at 542 cd/m² with a fairly low brightness distribution of 70%.
On top of that, HP uses PWM to regulate the display’s brightness. This means that the screen flickers at all brightness levels below 100% and at a frequency of 952 Hz. That’s quite low, so it could cause problems for users with sensitive eyes.

The Intel Core i7 and i5 in our test unit is a quad-core processor that can handle up to eight threads simultaneously. The clock rates are between 1.8 and 4.6 GHz in theory, although the cooling system has a big influence on how long these high frequencies can be kept up for. Our Cinebench R15 loop shows that users can expect the performance to drop by around 13% quite quickly.
The individual multi-core and single-core performance benchmarks turn out slightly below average for the EliteBook x360 1030 G4, which means our test unit cannot keep up with the newer Ice Lake CPU in our comparison devices either.

The system performance benchmarks place the HP EliteBook x360 1030 G4 in the center field compared to its competitors. The models that are equipped with an Intel Core i7-1065G7 rank best. We did not encounter any issues or weaknesses during everyday use. The Windows convertible has a smooth system performance. It accesses data and boots programs quickly.
HP has equipped the EliteBook x360 1030 G4 with an SSD from Western Digital. It has a capacity of 512 GB and offers average performance according to our comparison table. The device does not have an SD card reader.
The Intel UHD Graphics 620 in our test unit is an integrated graphics unit with performance that depends on the included RAM. Therefore, it should benefit from the fact that our device is equipped with 16 GB of RAM in dual-channel mode. Unfortunately, its 3DMark performance is not on par with its competition. Graphics performance should be enough for applications with low demands in terms of graphics.
Temperature
According to our measurements, the EliteBook x360 1030 G4 reaches a maximum surface temperature of 40 °C under load. This means that users can easily hold the convertible in their hands or use it on their laps.
During our one-hour stress test, the core temperatures immediately jump to over 90 °C but only for a short time. They then remain at an average 60 °C for the remainder of the test. The clock rates drop noticeably and end up significantly below the base clock rate of 1.8 GHz. The convertible becomes sluggish towards the end of the test but soon recovers and runs smoothly again after a short cool down phase.

Speakers
The speakers of the HP convertible cannot be turned up very loud, but they cover a fairly wide sound spectrum. This makes them suitable for playing media in quiet surroundings. We would still recommend connecting external speakers of headphones via the 3.5-mm audio jack for extended listening.
The power consumption of the x360 1030 G4 is average in our test field. The maximum power consumption reaches around 50 Watt under load and is similar to the demands of similarly equipped devices.
The included AC adapter has a rated output of 65 Watt and is therefore large enough to always supply the convertible with sufficient power.
Our practical Wi-Fi test lasts around 9:30 hours on the HP EliteBook x360. This is half an hour shorter than on the predecessor despite having the same battery capacity. The Windows convertible fares well in our comparison field.
